Letter the Editor - Obama School Speech

September 7th, 2009

LETTER TO THE EDITOR - THE COLUMBIAN
-------------------------------------
President Obama has crafted a great address to students. It contained honesty, empathy, encouragement, and serious parental admonishment to students to study hard, get serious and succeed. It is precisely what any good president ought to say to students, and with his talent for giving a great speech, it will undoubtedly encourage many students.

You may have heard this would be indoctrination, propaganda, or "cult of personality" speech? It's clear that all the complaints about this speech were bald face lies. Our President is not a propaganist. As the father of a First Grade teacher, I am proud our president cared enough to offer encouragement to students, and I hope they listened and will take his words to heart. I am ashamed of schools that did not give their students the opportunity to see this speech.

I ask you then, why would anyone believe the lies being told about the President's health care reforms? Support the President as he works to make health care universal, affordable and fair, without destroying the current system. Let's make sure the liars don't win. Write your 3 representatives; Baird, Cantwell and Murray.

Polycarbonate (Clear plastic) cover for back porch.

Some of you may remember the PVC pipe deck roof I made last year. I really thought it would stand up to our winder winds here in Camas, but no... failure. Here's what I built this year. I think I have a good chance that this will be a survivor. We get an East wind down the Columbia River gorge, sometime accompanied by freezing rain. Bring it on! Oh, I probably shouldn't say such things. All of this is intended to keep the firewood dry this winter.... Oh, now I need firewood. Notice the handy rainbarrel/gutter system.
