Big, BIG, HUGE Obama Rally in Portland, Sunday, May 18th, 2008

Obama Rally-Portland, May 18, 2008

Maddie and I went to the Barack Obama rally in Portland today, and it was so awesome! The largest political crowd in Portland history, and the largest of any candidate in the 2008 race, by far. An estimate 75,000 people turned out, 60,000 were able to get in to find standing room only in the waterfront "bowl" along the Willamette river in Portland. Another 15,000 were turned away and had to watch from boat, the nearby streets and bridges. Wow. Check out the video:

Working on the Laundry Room

Over the past month I've been working on the laundry room. You may remember that I bought Mom a nice front loader laundry set, Maytag's. Yeah, Craigslist. And we have been going to the laundramat for a couple of months now, what a drag. Anyway, lots of sheetrock, some improvements to the lighting, and now the faux-tile is going up on the walls, and then some new flooring, and it will be done. Maybe another two weeks. So, it's starting to look good and you can get an idea of the colors, etc. We will be installing a fake window, and Madeleine will be painting a nice pastoral scene for a view.

Maddie and I are off to the Obama rally in Portland now. So, another blog on that when we get back. OooohBammmmmaaaaaaahhhh.com

Sunny Day in Camas

Another beautiful day in Camas. Here's a picture of Wafertech, where Pat works as a Lead Production Specialist in the Testing area. They make silicone chips for many of the game boxes, cell phone, flash drives and computers on the market today. This was taken on a hike I took today.

I haven't been on a good hike for many months but woke up this morning and just felt like it. Yesterday, an overcast showery day, was spent mowing the front lawn and edging around the trees, and laying down "3-way" mulch in the rose garden and around the trees. Turned out pretty nice.

I walked from our home at 3010 NW Kent St, in Camas, to the StarBucks over on 19215 SE 34th St., also in Camas, but kind of round-about, using some of the trail system rather than roads, but this was nearly a 10 mile round trip. It's always nice to have a destination in mind when out on a semi-urban walk, and nothing better than Starbucks. I saw half a dozen rabbits, tons of birds, and an opossum. The weather report said it was 43 degrees F. this morning when I started out, but I quickly was quite warm in my fleece jacket. It should be a sunny day in the 70's.

Pat is working today, day 1 of 3 this week. Madeleine is off to Mass. Just me and the two dogs. I plan just a little yard work today, and then some serious sanding and mudding on the sheetrock down in the laundy room. If I have time, I'll work a bit more on the rain barrels. We added four more but I haven't completely hooked them up or put in the faucets yet.

But first, I think I will take a nap.
